U Aung Moe Zaw said Friday the registration of DPNS is delayed because the Immigration Department has procrastinated in issuing his NRC. Though U Aung Moe Zaw applied for NRC at the township Immigration Office since August 2013, it has not been issued to him until now, said U Aung Moe Zaw.
“When I rang and asked to the township Immigration, they said they forwarded to the regional department. Then, the regional department forwarded to the central department again. The central department told me the card has not been given out because the director hasn’t signed it,” he said.
DPNS returned to Myanmar in August and party leaders met with the chairman of the Union Election Commission U Tin Aye for twice to register as political party. DPNS restructured its 15-member central organizing committee in August and appointed U Aung Moe Zaw as chairman, U Yin Htwe as vicechairman and U Ngwe Linn as general secretary.
U Aung Moe Zaw said DPNS is re-organizing former party members both from within the country and outside of it. The new party is founded with principles based on democracy, peace, justice and equality. DPNS was formed on Oct. 14, 1988 after ‘88 uprising by young students and the military government banned the party as unlawful organization soon after 1990 election. Party members fled the country and set up its base in Thai-Myanmar border area.
In 2012, Union Peace-Making Work Committee, led by Union Minister U Aung Min and DPNS leaders met for the first time in Thailand. Following that, a special conference of party central committee decided to reestablish the party inside Myanmar.
